How often should I get a dental cleaning and exam?

It depends on your specific oral health needs, but we generally recommend patients schedule teeth cleanings and exams at least twice per year. If you need periodontal deep cleanings, we may want you to come see us three or four times a year to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy. Our team will be able to help you determine how many routine visits you need per year during your next appointment with us.

Will a teeth cleaning whiten my teeth?

A professional dental cleaning can lift some of the stains that may be present on the teeth, but teeth cleanings will not make your smile noticeably whiter. If you are interested in scheduling a professional teeth whitening treatment after your cleaning, Southbridge Dental Care offers excellent in-office teeth whitening services. To learn more about our cosmetic treatments, please refer to our cosmetic page or give our office a call.

How long does a comprehensive dental exam and teeth cleaning take?

The length of your appointments may vary, but routine dental visits usually take between thirty minutes and one hour. If we are taking X-rays or you would like a fluoride treatment or another preventive dental service, it may take closer to an hour. We reserve these time frames just for you, so if you have any questions or concerns about your smile, please don’t hesitate to bring them up with our team!

What are the benefits of a professional dental cleaning?

Teeth cleanings that are performed by an experienced dental hygienist are different from brushing your teeth at home. We use a special gritty toothpaste that is perfect for plaque removal, and your hygienist will expertly floss your teeth and remove plaque and tartar that has collected in areas that are hard for patients to reach with a toothbrush. Professional dental cleanings and a thorough at-home oral care routine greatly reduce your risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease.
