What are veneers?

Veneers are essentially thin tooth-colored shells that fit over natural teeth to enhance their appearance. They are considered a cosmetic procedure, but they can also help restore the appearance and functionality of a tooth that has been damaged. Our office offers both traditional veneers and Lumineers®, which are thinner than traditional veneers and require very little prep work.

Can veneers stain?

Veneers are made of porcelain and other stain-resistant materials, so they can remain uniform in color and maintain their whiteness. Whitening products do not work on veneers, but our team can work with you to decide the exact shade of white you would like your veneers to be before they’re installed.

Do veneers hurt?

Veneer treatments shouldn’t be painful or uncomfortable due to their minimally invasive nature. A local anesthetic is also usually applied before the veneers are placed, and tooth enamel is so thin that it doesn’t hurt to remove it. Veneers don’t cause tooth sensitivity either. In fact, veneers can protect teeth from foods that trigger tooth sensitivity, like very cold or hot foods, by acting as a barrier.

Are veneers covered by insurance?

Veneers are not usually covered by insurance because they are considered a cosmetic service. If you are getting a single veneer to cover a damaged tooth, your insurance plan may offer full or partial coverage. Southbridge Dental Care also accepts third-party payment plans like CareCredit® to help break up dental costs into equal monthly payments. For more information about financing your veneers, give our office a call or check out our financial page.
